Our Approaches

At Flourishing Minds ABA Therapy, we utilize these approaches to help teach our learners new and adaptive skills. Applying these approaches also helps in enhancing our learner's preexisting adaptive skills to help them flourish.

Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

An evidence-based practice that follows a learner-led model. This approach emphasizes the significance of the learner utilizing opportunities that are already available in their natural environment. NET also follows a play-based model where the learner interacts with the available stimuli to help promote appropriate language/communication skills.

Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

DTT is an evidence-based practice commonly used in Applied Behavior Analysis. At Flourishing Minds ABA Therapy, we use DTT to break down each learner’s materials to their most basic parts and teach them in a step-by-step format. This approach helps teach challenging tasks in palatable portions. Lastly, DTT utilizes reinforcements based on the learner’s preference to promote learning and encourage the learner. DTT is used to teach skills such as:

1. Speech and Language skills

2. Communication skills

3. Fine motor and gross motor skills and many more

Naturalistic Developmental
Behavioral Interventions (NDBI)

A learner-led model that focuses on the significance of the learner’s opportunities within their natural environments. Unlike NET, NDBI places significance on the quality of the relationship between the learner and the service providers.

Parent Training

At Flourishing Minds ABA, our goal is to teach our clients (parent+learner) adaptive and life-changing skills to help them flourish in all areas of life, especially after graduating from our services. During parent training, the BCBA teaches the parents/guardians the learner skills and protocols that have been proven to help the learner. We also utilize this time to discuss any concerns or take into consideration any advice that the learner’s family might have.

Task Analysis

Similar to DTT, task analysis is used to break down challenging skills into more achievable components. Unlike DTT, Task Analysis is used to teach more independence and life skills. Task Analysis is used for independent/self-help tasks such as:

  1. Shower

  2. Brushing teeth

  3. Brushing hair

  4. Dressing

  5. Self-feeding and many more

Community Outings

Community Outings is a learner-specific protocol to help learners that have difficulties integrating and engaging in society. During these outings, the clinical team works on teaching and modeling appropriate behaviors. Community outings provide the learner an opportunity to flourish in their social, and communication skills with possible age-appropriate peers. Community outings can take place in areas such as:

a) A local mall

b) A nearby park

c) The zoo

d) Church

e) The library

f) A friend’s birthday parties and many more

Generalization

At Flourishing Minds ABA Therapy, our goal isn’t to teach a dead-end skill, rather it’s to teach a skill and have the child display/utilize that skill across multiple people, places, environments, and time: The generalization approach does exactly that. It allows the learner to take the skill learned and have them use it when in various situations.
